Refreshed the coils

This morning, I refreshed my finger coils because they were starting to look a litle fuzzy. First, I did a scalp massage with coconut oil and rosemary essential oil. Then, I sprayed with my water mix (same as previous post, just added glycerin this time), moisturized with shea butter, put a little more KCCC on it, and sealed with the coconut/rosemary oil combo. I also put the clips on for a while and blow dryed on low heat to dry them up before class.
Look out for a pic of the results. when I choose to unravel them, the curls will be AMAZING! I almost wanted to do it today, but I had to stick to my commitment for wearing this portective style all week.
P.S. My FOUR MONTH MARK is Friday, February 25th. Yippee

My mentality when it comes to natural hair

Blog sites and youtube channels hype the expensive products but do you wanna know what I say personally? Bump that! Make your own products, buy the cheapies, even if it has some of the "evil ingredients" in it. You just have to stick to what works for your hair!
If you see a photo/someone on youtube and convine yourself they have the same hair as you, I encourage you to think about this: they may be MANIPULATING their hair to look like that! *gasp* Did she just say that?! YES, I DID!
It happens! I try my best to listen to my hair because I choose to let it do its own thing, even if it's the total opposite of what I wanted to do/the look I was going for. So be it! My hair truly knows what's best for itself.
One last thing dolls; TRIAL AND ERROR! More error than trial might I add. Do you boo! ;-]

Finger Coils 2-20-11

Results from my tedious task of finger coiling my fro. Looks nice if I do say so myself! =}

Materials for finger coils

So, I decided to wear finger coils for a few days to sort of get the feel of what I'd look like if I took the plunge to loc my hair.
I used my rat tail comb for the parts, water mix (ingredients in a previous post) to dampen, my conair brush to detangle, the SMDTM (Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque) to moisturize, KCCC to seal, annie double pring clips to secure, and proceeded to twist. Pic with final results next.

Contemplating Locs

Hey guys,
I've been thinking a lot lately about loc-ing my hair. I have always adored the beauty of locs. My eldest sister has them, and she is actually who inspired me to finally go through with transitioning to my natural hair. I must admit, I have been afraid to start them because we would be even MORE twin like than before lol.
I would like to experiment with them for a while and have plans to comb them back out for loose natural hair once again.
What do you guys think? Have you guys ever taken the plunge to locs to revert back to being a loose natural? Or have you fallen in love with locs and decided to keep them?

About those twists..lol

So, my hair was dying to be freed from my protective style of the night. So here goes my free fro.
My friend is going to braid my hair for me tonight though =}

More pics of my transition

My hair was flat twisted in the front and pulled into a high bun. I used eco styler gel and I don't remember what else! Lol

Transitioning Pic =}

This is a picture I took 4 days before I chopped. Flat twists in front two strand twisted to the ends and a twistout in the back. I almost forget how I looked w/hair before. I love my REAL hair

Oh how fun it is to watch my hair grow

It has been fun these past four months to watch my hair grow and the news things I've be able to do with it since it has grown. I can flat twist, braid, many fun things. I would like to wear braided styles more often (a la Goapele) =)

Something New

So tonight as I prepared for bed, I decided to try something new. Since my twists tend to unravel at night, I decided to twist them around itself and secure with double pronged clips (like pin curls/bantu knots). I sprayed with cold water, HEHH, safflower oil, rosemary essential oil, olive oil, and acv mixed in my spray bottle to slightly dampen the hair and added my shea mix to moisturize/seal. Add satin bonnet and satin pillowcase and goodnight world!
I plan to wear a hat to my morning classes before I unravel and style.
Look out for results!

Accidental Product Hauls?

Have any of you guys experienced any accidental product hauls by the referral of other natural hair blogs/youtube channels that review and suggest certain products that should be used for natural hair, be it stimulating growth, sealing ends, moisturizing hair, etc?

Frohawk at long last!

I am EXTREMELY thrilled to share that after 3 months of hair growth, I can now style my hair in a frohawk!
It may seem like a rapid time to outsiders (like my RA when I was experimenting with it a while ago) but to me it seemed like a LIFETIME!
Throughout my hair's life as fully natural, it seems that I have been taking the necessary precautions to retain/promote length. Great!
I have experienced trial and error, but mostly with products I tried to make myself, but trial and error nonetheless.
I am now even MORE excited to see what my hair can do now that I am accustomed to my natural, as is everyone else, and my hands and the occasional stray hands (that get slapped lol) do not roam as freely in my hair. Hopefully this will result in the elimination of fairy knots I am forced to cut out to promote happy hair, as well as splits and mild breakage.
I am also realizing (thanks to a post at CurlyNikki) that although my hair is thick/dense, I have mostly thin strands with a little medium/thick mixed in. I am confident I will meet my hair goal of chin length hair by the end of April if I continue the healthier hair practices and adding some more methods to care for my strands.
Stay tuned in for the results!

Variation of my Normal Twist Out

Got lots of compliments on the Hair of the Day today (2/7/11).
This look was achieved by spritzing my hair with my spray bottle mix of cold water, 2 drops of HEHH conditioner, olive oil, and a few drops of Rosemary Essential Oil.
I then combed my hair starting from the ends with my conair denman like brush.
I added a little Olive Oil Eco Styler Gel to the hair, then two strand twisted and went to bed. The next morning, I re-spritzed with my water mix, and sealed my ends with safflower oil before twisting in the opposite direction to unravel and voila! This is how it came out!
I then added my black satin bow headband with white polka dots to complete my look.
No fluffing. No seperating.
I was in love with how it looked! I’m going to start doing this more often. It will also be easier to retwist at night as well as elongate the amount of days before a cowash.

Eureka Moment =}

New Products!

Today I took my friend to the drugstore and couldn't HELP myself but to browse the store..ESPECIALLY the hair related products!
So as I was browsing, I found this conair brush that looks just like a denman! I saw one at LuvNaturals powered by Kim Love (aka KimmayTube), but it was made by goody. It was definitely affordable costing under four dollars compared to denman's whopping eleven dollar price tag!
I also found this V05 Kiwi Lime Squeeze Conditioner for only $0.77! Its a cheapie conditioner I bought to use as a deep treatment after my next shampoo sesh mixed with some honey.
Okay guys, that's it for now! =}
